The Unending Target: Another Gunman Downed at the White House Gates

It happened again. As of yesterday evening—Saturday, May 23, 2026—the White House became a battleground.

Shortly after 6:00 p.m. EDT, a suspected gunman identified as 21-year-old Nasire Best approached a U.S. Secret Service security booth at 17th Street and Pennsylvania Avenue NW. According to multiple reports, including CBS News, Best pulled a revolver from his bag and opened fire on the officers.

Between 15 and 30 gunshots echoed across the North Lawn.

The Secret Service immediately returned fire, striking the gunman. Best was critically injured and transported to George Washington University Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. During the chaos of the exchange, a civilian bystander was also struck and remains hospitalized in serious condition. Thankfully, no Secret Service agents were injured during the attack.

The White House was immediately placed on a brief lockdown. President Donald Trump was inside the residence during the shooting but was unimpacted and secure.

A History of Red Flags

The most frustrating part of this incident is that it wasn't unpredictable. Nasire Best was already a known entity to law enforcement.

Reports indicate that Best, a Maryland native, had a documented history of severe mental health issues and previous run-ins with the Secret Service. In June 2025, he blocked an entry lane to the White House, claimed to be the "son of God," and was sent to a psychiatric ward. Just weeks later, in July 2025, he was arrested again for ignoring commands to stay out of restricted areas, resulting in a judge issuing a strict "stay-away order."

CNN also reported that social media accounts linked to Best contained posts threatening violence against the President.

The Double Standard of Political Violence

When I look at this situation, and the never-ending attacks on this presidency and his life, it reveals a deeply unsettling reality. We are dealing with individuals who are profoundly disturbed—people whose mental state has deteriorated to a sunken place from which they refuse to return. When individuals show a repeated, violent obsession with our national monuments and our leaders, they need to be permanently removed from civil society.

Yet, there is a glaring hypocrisy in how this violence is treated.

The political Left constantly amplifies rhetoric that paints their opponents as the ultimate threat to democracy. They spread immense vitriol, yet whenever conservatives push for normalcy and constitutional order, it is met with actual violence and malice from extremists.

President Trump cannot even go about his daily duties without the constant, looming threat of a bullet aimed in his direction. No other president in modern history has endured this level of concentrated hatred and physical danger. The irony is staggering. He endures constant public attacks, relentless legal battles, and actual threats to his life—fitting every single criteria of the "victimhood" that progressive commentators constantly claim to care about. At this point, Orange truly is the new Black.

The Path Forward

President Trump deserves his respect, and the best way to give him his reparations is by voting Red. We need to secure our institutions, enforce the law against violent offenders, and turn states like California back to common sense.

God bless Donald J. Trump, and God bless America.
