As someone who makes provocative content, I have watched the recent controversies surrounding Dalton Eatherly—known online as "Chud The Builder"—take the internet by storm. His comedic, yet highly offensive and unfiltered commentary has sparked intense debate. As a creator, I have entered this same fight for freedom of speech and faced the exact same level of scrutiny.
When you push boundaries online, you inevitably deal with doxxing from individuals who have too much time on their hands and haven't felt the sun in days. These people are internet trolls, but the consequences of their actions are very real. Nobody should have to endure intense scrutiny or face threats to their life simply for the content they create.
The Real Threat: Doxxing and Harassment
I am fighting for people in California, and across the nation, to see stricter penalties and convictions for those who dox, harass, and threaten creators by exposing their residential locations. These actions potentially bring fear and physical harm to innocent families.
These situations are serious and need to be treated as such by the FBI and local law enforcement. When law enforcement is underfunded or fails to enforce the law correctly, the entire justice system suffers. This trickle-down effect eventually reaches the courts, compromising the integrity of the legal process.
Judicial Scrutiny
When we look at the legal proceedings surrounding Eatherly, it is important to scrutinize the officials involved. The presiding judge, Judge H. Reid Poland III of Tennessee, has a record that warrants public attention.
According to records from the Tennessee Board of Professional Responsibility, Judge Poland received a public censure on June 23, 2023. The Board found that he:
Failed to complete work promised to a client in a custody case after mediation.
Stopped communicating with his client.
Made misrepresentations to the client about the work he had done.
Ignored opposing counsel and failed to draft required legal documents, even after a Motion to Enforce the Mediation Agreement was filed.
When the individuals deciding the fate of creators have their own history of professional misconduct, it raises valid questions about the system as a whole.

My Personal Experience with Dalton Eatherly
Beyond the actions of the court and the media narrative, I want to share my personal dealings with Chud The Builder. In all of my online encounters with him, I have never experienced negativity or racism directed at me.
I have watched videos of him communicating with everyday Black citizens—people who remain calm, logical, and engage in deep, rational conversations with him in his community. I will be displaying my own personal interactions with him right here in this article. In my experience, a true racist wouldn't dare speak to a Black man, myself included, with the level of dialogue I've seen. The respect works both ways.
I want to see Eatherly free, reunited with his family, and able to make content again. I do hope, however, that he can pivot his livestreaming approach to something more productive.

Treating Division as Comedy
I would love to see him lean into a style more aligned with provocative, debate-style creators like Myron Gaines. I choose to treat racial division as comedy because, at the end of the day, much of the internet's outrage is performative. Nobody is inherently better than anybody else, and we shouldn't let a single word or controversial moment destroy a person's life and future opportunities.
Too many people are stuck on the internet, doom-scrolling and hating on the next social media personality because they aren't building anything for themselves. It’s time to get out there and pick yourself up by your bootstraps. I'm making my move right now by writing this article and speaking my truth. Get to work!
New Developments: Gag Orders and the Fight for Bail
As this case unfolds, the legal system is aggressively trying to control the narrative. During recent hearings, Judge H. Reid Poland III imposed strict courtroom rules, forbidding electronic devices and effectively attempting to put a lid on the public spectacle.
Furthermore, the state is actively blocking Eatherly’s access to his legal defense funds. Despite his GiveSendGo campaign raising over $200,000, and rumors of a major crypto platform stepping in to cover his $1 million bond, the judge has ordered a special "source hearing." This means the court is investigating where the crowdsourced cash originated before allowing it to be used for his release, leaving him behind bars while the legal red tape continues.
The Confrontation: Who Followed Who?
While mainstream media reports heavily focus on the shooting itself, independent commentary is bringing critical context to light.
Conversations amplified by major creators like Myron Gaines point to a different narrative leading up to the altercation. There are circulating allegations, supported by surfaced text messages and Facebook posts, suggesting that Joshua Fox had previously expressed intent to confront Eatherly. Supporters of Eatherly argue that he was followed and targeted at the courthouse, which is the cornerstone of his self-defense claim.
While prosecutors argue that surveillance footage shows Eatherly adopting a "bladed stance" and reaching for his pocket first, his defense team maintains he was physically attacked and placed in a headlock before any shots were fired. In a country built on the right to defend oneself, the full context of who initiated the physical confrontation matters deeply.

While the internet and the court systems debate what constitutes a hate crime versus self-defense, I have experienced actual, real-world racism—and it is a story that completely challenges the mainstream, left-leaning narrative.
People want to paint right-leaning livestreamers as the ultimate threat, but my own experience tells a very different story. The most blatant, venomous racism I've ever faced didn't come from a conservative internet troll. It came from a blue-haired individual—who identified as a man, accompanied by their pregnant girlfriend—who looked me dead in the eye and called me a racial slur with the hard "R."
